Following the lifting of Covid restrictions we are very pleased to announce that we can finally get together to start singing again – hooray! We are going to start gently and are not rushing into rehearsals for concerts, but just enjoy finding our voices and singing some familiar songs together again. This would also help any new members who might like to join us to get to know us a bit before rehearsals start in earnest. We are aiming for the first week in September, please watch this space for further details about timings and venue.
Message from Yvonne, Chair of Marldon Community Choir to all Choir members. Friday 8th May 2020
Well it was great to see all those of you that could join us on zoom today. What a refreshing way to spend time seeing faces we haven’t seen for a long time and to share lockdown stories.
The next zoom meeting is in a couple of weeks, Val has already sent out an email this evening. Do please join us if you can, it’s quite straightforward and such fun.
No doubt like me you’ve been spending lots of time in the garden during this lovely weather; it’s been so beautiful listening to the birds. Also learnt how to use Zoom, Houseparty and other virtual platforms, which has been a learning curve!
I hope you are all well and keeping safe. Please remember if there is anything you need please let Val know. Happy to do shopping, pick up medicines etc.
Take care, Yvonne
Message from Yvonne, Chair of Marldon Community Choir to all Choir members
Hi everyone
I hope you managed to watch Joseph last night via the link Val sent us all. What a great opportunity to have a sing and don’t forget there is also Gareth Malone’s virtual choir to join every week day at 5.30pm. I’m sure like me you are missing choir, just think how lovely it will be to see everyone again. Think we will be talking more than singing!!!
I’ve loved catching up with choir members whilst I’ve been doing my daily walk around the village.
Please remember if you live in Marldon and are isolating or can’t get out, there is the Marldon/ Compton Community Care Hub which you should have received information on. There have been identified people in the villages to help with support in a variety of ways.
I am also very happy to be contacted if you need help with shopping, collecting medication etc and I can be contacted via Val whose email address you will have.
Please take care, keep healthy and look forward to singing with you soon.
Yvonne xx
Coronavirus news
New term begins 13th January 2020
What a fantastic Christmas concert we had at Marldon Parish Church, an excellent way to start the Christmas festivities. The Church was packed, and the audience participated enthusiastically not only with the singing but with the mince pies and mulled wine afterwards.
We are now looking forward to our new term, starting on Monday 13th January at 7.30pm in Marldon Primary School.

Last night of the Proms
What a fabulous evening we had, celebrating the Last Night of the Proms. A delicious buffet was served, we had a laugh at some classic comedy clips, joined in some community singing and then joined the BBC for the second half of the Last night of the Proms, waving flags and singing our hearts out.
Cheque presentation to Devon Air Ambulance
It was a real pleasure to present this cheque for £700 to Devon Air Ambulance, raised by our ‘Sounds of Summer 2019’ concert back in June this year. We all love singing and it was very rewarding for us to see such a positive outcome from our concert.
Sounds of Summer 2019
Our Summer Concert was again a huge success for the choir. This year we nominated Devon Air Ambulance as our chosen charity and we were delighted with the support.
Once again the concert was held in St John’s Church, Bridgetown, Totnes and DCHQ were welcomed back as our guests.
For the first time we literally had ’em dancing in the aisles to our finale of Dancing Queen.
Here are some quotes from the audience:
“The acoustics were amazing and highlighted all the wonderful voices of both choir and quartet”.
“Thank You! for a truly professional and wonderful and enjoyable evening.”
Our next appearance will be at the Apple Pie Fair, Marldon on 27th July where we will be singing some of our favourite summer songs. Come along and listen and treat yourself to strawberries from our stall.
Sounds of Summer 2019
Rehearsals are well under way now and if you walk past Marldon Primary School on a Monday evening you will hear us singing our hearts out.
This year we are supporting Devon Air Ambulance, so please come along to St John’s Church, Bridgetown in Totnes for a really enjoyable evening of popular songs. We are delighted to welcome back Devon Close Harmony Quartet who were kind enough to sing along with us at our first concert.
Tickets are £8 and include a glass of wine or soft drink and are available from Marldon Newsagents, Marldon Cut of Class hairdressers, and from Anne on 07703066877. There will be a limited number of tickets available on the door also. We look forward to seeing you!
