Supporting the Alzheimer’s Society

The Alzheimer’s Society is our charity of the year and we were delighted to present another cheque to them at our last rehearsal, this time for the grand sum of £1000 !!

This was the amount raised from the sale of tickets for our Sounds of Summer 2024 concert in June.

Thanks to all our audience for contributing to such an important charity that supports research into Alzheimer’s and gives much needed help to sufferers and their families.

Sounds of Summer Concert 2024

‘Sounds of Summer 2024’ went down a storm – “ A fabulous evening”, “this choir always gives its all”, “made me feel quite emotional” were some of the comments we received from the audience.

This was our first Summer concert for 5 years and we certainly sang our hearts out and we looked  and felt good to be wearing our new choir uniform. We were also treated to some modern barbershop singing by the group ‘Soundwave’. Many thanks go to Kathy Snow our Musical Director and our Accompanist Julie Arrow.

All our profits will go to the Alzheimer’s society, and two representatives gave a short moving talk on the work that is being done locally. – keep your eyes peeled to find out how much we raised.

Presentation of cheque to Alzheimer’s Society from Bop til you Drop

We were very pleased to present to the Alzheimer’s Society a cheque for £600 that we raised at our recent ‘Bop ’til you Drop’ dance event.  Not only did the Estuary Band play a great selection of music to dance to, but they also donated their fee to the Alzheimer’s Society.   It was great to see so many people dancing and having a good time and raising money for a very deserving charity as well.

Celebrating 10 years

Marldon Community Choir is now 10 years old! Started by a few people in Marldon village, including our Musical Director Kathy Snow, we have now expanded to 40-50 members from Marldon and the local areas. We have performed Christmas concerts in Marldon Parish Church every year except during the Pandemic, and reinstated our Summer Concert this year at St John’s Church, Bridgetown.

As well as enjoying singing and meeting new friends we raise money to support local charities including Mayfield College, Rowcroft Hospice and Devon Air Ambulance, and national charities including Alzheimer’s Society. We also hold fun social events, walks and theatre outings for members and families and friends.

Do please come and join us! Contact us for any further information through our Contact page on this website, or on our Facebook page ‘Marldon Community Choir’. All are welcome!

The Sixteen

The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers is performing at Exeter Cathedral on the 9th May at 7:30pm. This year’s programme is about celebrating the art of imitation and parody, featuring Orlande de Lassus alongside a newly commissioned work by Bob Chilcott.

We are also offering an accompanying workshop at The Hall on the 11th May at 11:30am – 2:30pm for any keen amateur singers to explore the music inspired by The Sixteen’s Choral Pilgrimage.

Tickets are currently on sale and are available on our website for the concert and workshop. Purchases with both a concert and workshop ticket will also have a £5 discount on their total.
